Provincetown-Boston Airlines (PBA) was a historic regional airline in the United States that operated from 1949 until 1989. Founded by John C. Van Arsdale, it grew to become the largest commuter airline in the United States during the early 1980s before facing financial distress, safety groundings, and subsequent corporate buyouts. Provincetown-Boston Airlines (PBA) operated a famous fleet of Douglas DC-3s from the late 1960s to the 1980s, becoming one of the largest commuter airlines in the U.S. and famously maintaining a fleet of up to 12 of the historic aircraft. The airline utilized the durable, vintage airliners to fly year-round—spending summers serving routes in New England and Cape Cod, and winters operating in Florida.
