The Piaggio PD.808 is a twin-engine jet aircraft developed as a joint venture between the Italian manufacturer Piaggio Aero and the American Douglas Aircraft Company. Originally conceived in the 1960s as a light executive business jet and dubbed the "Vespa Jet," the aircraft failed to secure commercial contracts but found a lasting second life serving the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) in utility, liaison, and electronic warfare roles. Because Douglas withdrew from the commercial side of the program during a period of financial restructuring, only 24 production examples of the PD.808 were ever built, making it an extremely rare piece of Cold War aviation history. The Italian Air Force completely retired its fleet in 2003.
