The Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun (Typhoon) is a German single-engine sports, touring, and communications aircraft developed by Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFW) in the 1930s. It is most famous for serving as the direct design predecessor to the legendary Bf 109 fighter aircraft, pioneering advanced all-metal construction techniques that redefined military aviation. A total of 885 original Messerschmitt Me 108 (officially designated Bf 108) Taifun aircraft were built. Following World War II, French manufacturer SNCAN (Nord) continued production under the designations Nord 1000, 1001, and 1002. These post-war French variants brought the combined worldwide total to over 1,170 aircraft.
