The Albatros D.III was a highly successful German biplane fighter aircraft utilized by the Imperial German Army Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte) and the Austro-Hungarian Air Service during World War I. Designed by Robert Thelen, it entered frontline service in December 1916 and became the dominant aircraft during Germany’s period of aerial supremacy in the spring of 1917, famously known as "Bloody April". It was the primary mount for many legendary aces, including Manfred von Richthofen (The Red Baron), who scored most of his 80 victories in Albatros fighters rather than his iconic red triplane.
