The General Dynamics F-16A is the original single-seat production variant of the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, a legendary single-engine, supersonic, multirole tactical fighter aircraft. First deployed in the late 1970s, it revolutionized aerial combat by introducing innovations like relaxed static stability, a fly-by-wire flight control system, and a bubble canopy for exceptional pilot visibility. Across all production lines and blocks, approximately 1,500 to 1,600 F-16A models were built. While specific variant metrics are rarely isolated from their two-seat counterparts, total early-generation F-16A/B production reached over 2,200 aircraft out of the total 4,604 F-16s built across all variants historically.
