The Bristol Type 175 Britannia was a pioneering British medium-to-long-range airliner designed by the Bristol Aeroplane Company to service the British Empire's commercial routes. Affectionately dubbed "The Whispering Giant" due to its exceptionally quiet exterior and smooth flight performance, it holds a landmark position as the world's first large, long-range turboprop transport aircraft. A total of 85 Bristol 175 Britannia aircraft were built. BOAC stands for the British Overseas Airways Corporation, a prominent state-owned British airline that operated long-haul international flights from 1939 until 1974. It was renowned for pioneering the luxury "Golden Age of Flying" and introducing several iconic aircraft to commercial aviation.
