The Vought OS2U Kingfisher was the primary shipboard, catapult-launched observation floatplane used by the United States Navy during World War II. Designed by engineer Rex Beisel at the Vought-Sikorsky Aircraft Division, this compact mid-wing monoplane became a legendary, versatile workhorse despite its modest flight performance. A total of 1,519 Vought OS2U Kingfisher aircraft were built.
