The United States Postal Service (USPS) never owned or operated any aircraft. However in the 1990's they entered into contracts with several air freight carriers to carry their packages and mail. In the early 1990s, the USPS utilized a fleet of 727s under contract with Emery Worldwide, which held the postal contract out of the Eagle Hub in Indianapolis, Indiana. These aircraft, primarily 727-100s and 727-200s, were operated by subcontractors like Ryan International Airlines and Express One Airlines, and featured the USPS "sonic eagle" logo. This all ended in 2001, when FedEx took over flying most of the USPS mail.
