The Boeing 747-8 is a large, long-range, wide-body commercial airliner that represents the third and final generation of the iconic Boeing 747 "Queen of the Skies" family. Officially launched by Boeing Commercial Airplanes on November 14, 2005, it features a stretched fuselage, redesigned wings, and advanced technologies integrated directly from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner program. Lufthansa operates 17 to 18 Boeing 747-8I passenger aircraft in active service (out of 19 originally in its fleet, with some transitioning out for military conversion). They remain the world's largest commercial operator of the passenger 747-8.
