The Hunting Jet Provost is a British jet-powered trainer aircraft that served as the primary foundational trainer for the Royal Air Force (RAF) from 1955 to 1993. Originally developed by Hunting Percival from the piston-engine Percival Provost, the design was later produced by the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) and became the world's first ab initio (from the beginning) jet trainer standardized by any air force. A total of 741 BAC Jet Provosts were built. The British-built, side-by-side jet trainer was a staple of the Royal Air Force's training syllabus from 1955 until its retirement in the early 1990s, serving both as a basic trainer and a light strike aircraft.
