The Hawker Tempest was a highly successful British fighter aircraft utilized by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II. Developed by Hawker Aircraft as a direct successor to the Hawker Typhoon, it corrected its predecessor's high-altitude performance issues by introducing a thinner, laminar-flow wing. Driven by the powerful Napier Sabre engine, the Tempest Mk V became one of the fastest low-altitude fighter jets of the war, playing a critical role in intercepting German V-1 flying bombs and combating advanced Luftwaffe fighters. A total of 1,702 Hawker Tempest aircraft were built by Hawker Aircraft Limited and the Bristol Aeroplane Company.
