The Douglas C-47 Skytrain, also known as the Dakota (RAF designation), is a legendary military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It played a pivotal role in World War II and beyond, remaining in service with various military and civilian operators for decades. Approximately 10,655 Douglas C-47 Skytrain/Dakota aircraft were built. This number includes both the military C-47 and the civil DC-3 variants that were produced.
