The Tupolev Tu-114 Rossiya (NATO reporting name: Cleat) is a retired Soviet long-range, turboprop-powered airliner that holds the official record as the fastest propeller-driven passenger aircraft in the world, a title it has maintained since 1960. First flying in November 1957 and entering commercial service with Aeroflot in 1961, it was derived from the Tu-95 "Bear" strategic bomber. By utilizing the bomber's swept wings and massive engines, the Tu-114 was able to reach jet-rivaling cruise speeds of 478 mph (770 km/h).
