The Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King (company designation S-61) is an iconic twin-engine helicopter known for its roles in anti-submarine warfare (ASW), search and rescue (SAR), and transport. Sikorsky built the Sea King, which was also produced under license in several countries, including the UK (Westland Sea King), Italy (Agusta AS-61), and Japan (Mitsubishi HSS-2). Numerous variants were developed for different roles. Although retired from frontline US Navy service in 2006, it continues to operate in various roles with other nations. 1,100 to 1,300 Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King helicopters were built in all versions by all licensees.
