The Saab 29 Tunnan (popularly known as the "Flying Barrel" or Flygande tunnan) was a first-generation Swedish jet fighter designed and manufactured by Saab in the late 1940s. It was a monumental achievement in aviation history, serving as the first Western European fighter to be produced with a swept-wing design following World War II. Despite its distinctively rotund and chubby appearance, it was highly agile, fast, and ranked among the most capable combat aircraft of the early Cold War era. A total of 661 Saab 29 Tunnan aircraft were built between 1950 and 1956.
