Continental Airlines is a defunct carrier that ceased operations in 2012 following its 2010 merger with United Airlines. The combined airline adopted the United name, but kept the iconic Continental "globe" logo and operational setup. Today, the former Continental route network, frequent flyer programs, and hubs are fully integrated into the United Airlines system. Continental Airlines operated a small fleet of Boeing 747-200 aircraft during the late 1980s and 1990s, primarily acquiring them through its 1987 acquisition of People Express, which had originally purchased the jumbo jets from Qantas.
