The Antonov An-124 Ruslan (NATO reporting name: Condor) is one of the world's largest strategic airlift, four-engined cargo aircraft. Designed in the 1980s by the Antonov Design Bureau in the Ukrainian SSR, it remains the largest military transport aircraft currently in service. Following the tragic destruction of its unique, larger sibling—the Antonov An-225 Mriya—in 2022, the An-124 holds the crown as the world's heaviest operating serial cargo aircraft. A total of 57 Antonov An-124 Ruslan aircraft were built. Production of this massive heavy-lift strategic airlifter took place between 1982 and 2004, with the last unfinished airframes from the Soviet era assembled and completed by 2004.
