The Agusta Westland CH-149 Cormorant is the primary long-range search and rescue (SAR) helicopter operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Specifically developed as the Canadian variant of the Agusta Westland AW101 (formerly EH101), this medium-lift, three-engine aircraft entered service in 2002. It is custom-built to withstand Canada's severe maritime and Arctic weather conditions. The Royal Canadian Air Force operates a fleet of 15 Agusta Westland CH-149 Cormorant search and rescue helicopters . Originally built in the United Kingdom by Leonardo, the fleet is currently undergoing a Mid-Life Upgrade that will expand the total fleet to 16 helicopters  by bringing in three new-build airframes.
