The Mil Mi-26 (NATO reporting name: Halo) is a Soviet/Russian heavy-lift transport helicopter and the largest and most powerful helicopter to ever enter serial production. Developed in the 1970s by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant to replace the aging Mi-6, it was specifically engineered to transport heavy military equipment, ballistic missiles, and bulk cargo to remote regions lacking developed infrastructure. It has been in operational service since the 1980s across both military and civil aviation domains. 340 units of the Mil Mi-26 Halo heavy-lift helicopter have been built.
