The Mitsubishi F-2 is a multirole fighter jet manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Lockheed Martin exclusively for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). Nicknamed the "Viper Zero", the aircraft was co-developed on a 60/40 industrial split between Japan and the United States, utilizing the General Dynamics F-16C Block 40 as its baseline design. Production began in 1996, and the jet entered active service in 2000 to replace the aging Mitsubishi F-1. A total of 98 Mitsubishi F-2 aircraft were built (including 4 prototypes and 94 production models) before production ended in 2011. F-2B is the two-seat combat-capable trainer variant of the Mitsubishi F-2.
