The Grumman F7F Tigercat was a heavy fighter aircraft that served with the United States Navy and Marine Corps from late World War II until 1954. Engineered by Grumman, it holds the historic distinction of being the first twin-engined fighter deployed by the U.S. Navy. Boasting extreme speed and overwhelming firepower, it pushed piston-engine technology to its absolute limit right at the dawn of the jet age. A total of 364 Grumman F7F Tigercat aircraft were built between 1943 and 1946.
